Navratri
Navratri (September 25 – October 3, 2014) is a festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu deity Durga. The word Navratri means the ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit/ The nine nights are dedicated to the three main goddesses of Hinduism. Navratri is separated into sets of three days.
- First three days of Navratri are dedicated to Goddess Durga, the Goddess of power and energy.
- Next three days of Navratri are dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
- The final three days belong to Goddess Saraswati who is worshipped to acquire spiritual knowledge.
Navratri is an important major festival and is celebrated with great zeal all over India.
