Victoria Day is on the Monday before May 25 to honor Queen Victoria’s birthday. Queen Victoria was born on May 24, 1819. It was during her lifetime that the British Empire expanded greatly. Celebrations are held in some cities such as in Victoria, British Columbia where a parade is held. Nowadays, people may be less aware of the historical meaning behind Victoria Day, but appreciate the long weekend as a result of this day. Canadians may make use of the long weekend to go on short trips, relax, or to gather with friends and family. The long weekend also viewed unofficially as the start of the spring and summer season in Canada.
