After a 78 day campaign, Canadians casted their final ballots on October 19th, resulting in a Liberal victory. Polls showed that support for the three main political parties (Liberal Party, New Democratic Party, and Conservative Party) during the campaign was fairly close, but the Liberal Party began to gain momentum near the end of the campaign. The Liberals won 184 seats, granting them a majority government. Their party leader, Justin Trudeau, will be Canada’s next Prime Minister.
The Conservative Party won the second most seats with 99, making them the Official Opposition. The party has announced that Stephen Harper will resign as leader of the party, but will remain as a Member of Parliament representing the Calgary Heritage constituency where he won over 63% of the vote.
