Bill 6, the Enhanced Protection for Farm and Ranch Workers Act, passed its third and final reading on December 10, 2015. The Bill would compel Alberta farms and ranches to abide by occupational health and safety standards, and would make Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) coverage mandatory for farms with non-family waged individuals by January 1, 2016.
Do you know how an Alberta Bill becomes law?
“MLAs introduce Bills at first reading and then debate them in three stages: second reading, Committee of the Whole and third reading. Once a Bill has passed third reading, the Lieutenant Governor may grant royal assent, enabling the Bill to become law.” (MLA: Member of the Legislative Assembly)
