Emergency Alert Testing Across Canada on May 7, 9

Settlement ISC Community, Updates

Next week millions of mobile phones and tablets will ring and vibrate across Canada to test the new national public emergency alert system. Canada’s broadcast regulator, the CRTC, said the wireless providers will send a test alert on May 7 and 9. It sounds similar to an ambulance alarm. In Alberta, the test will be distributed on May 9 at 1:55 PM MDT. The test signals will also be sent on TV and radio stations. For an example of the Alert Attention Signal, you can click here.

The emergency alerts are issued by federal, provincial, and territorial governments to warns the public of imminent threats to life, for example, fire, floods, natural disasters, as well as amber alerts.
