The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is the public school board in Calgary. Most of CBE schools follow the traditional calendar. Their classes start on September 4, 2018. Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) hosted the Bridgeland Summer Block Party and Soccer Tournament last week. More than 200 people were in attendance, most from the Ethiopian and Eritrean community in Calgary, as well as residents from the Bridgeland Calgary Housing complex nearby. A BBQ meal and snacks was provided, as well as information about community resources, facepainting and kids activities.
This morning, Immigrant Services Calgary hosted a networking event – Power Breakfast for professionals in the field of finance, HR, accounting, and supply chain. It was a great success with over 60 participants, and opportunities for newcomer professionals to build up their local network with professionals in their field.

This morning, Immigrant Services Calgary was honoured to host Kent Hehr, Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre, who made an announcement regarding improvements to the family reunification process on behalf of the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
In 2019, the Government of Canada will accept up to 20000 applications for sponsorship of parents and grandparents. This is 4 times the number of applications accepted when the program reopened in 2014, when the cap was set at 5000 applications.
