Settlement ISC Citizenship & Immigration, Updates

Government of Canada announced today that they had signed the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM). The GCM recognizes the barriers migration poses but also highlights the positive effects of migration and the benefits of regulated, well managed migration systems.

The GCM has 23 objectives that focuses on different aspects of migration. These objectives will increase migration’s visibility in regional and UN forums. Participating states are not expected to implement each action but rather view them as guidelines. This is a significant milestone and represents the first multilateral framework for the global response to migration.
