Increase in minimum age for employment in Alberta

Settlement ISC Community, Employment, Updates

Effective January 13 2019, the minimum age for employment in Alberta will be increasing to 13 years old. This will aid in protecting youth and aligning Alberta closer with international standards.

Youth aged 12 and under may only be employed, with a permit, in artistic activities such as acting. These new rules do not apply to volunteers, contractors, youth employed on farms and ranches, or casual work such as babysitting or snow shoveling.
