In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Calgary Public Library locations remain closed and all events and programs have been canceled until June 30, 2020. Here are a few frequently asked questions and answers to guide you through library services during this special time:

I’m new in Calgary and do not have a Library card. Can I apply for a free Library membership card during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Yes, you can! You may choose to get your free Library card online or in person. During the closure, please register online for your free Library membership. Simply go to this link,, click on “Sign up online today!” and fill out the form.

How do I return books I borrowed during the closure?

All library locations have been closed since March 16, 2020. If you borrowed books or other materials before March 16, please note that due dates and holds are extended to June 30, 2020 with no fines. Please hold on to the books or any other library materials you borrowed until library locations reopen.

Are e-books still available online? Are there any other online resources I can use during the closure?

Since the library closure on March 16, a campaign called “Library at Home” has been launched to highlight some free online resources available for Library members. There are a variety of free online courses, streaming services, as well as Storytime at Home series for children!

I have some questions. How do I contact library staff during the closure?

Library staff are there for you via phone, email, and online chat from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm:
