The Alberta Government has recently announced up to $17.8 million in grants for the child care sector during the relaunching of Alberta’s economy.
The grants will come in three phases. During the first phase, child care centres and out-of-school centres will immediately receive a one-time grant to help cover one-quarter of overhead costs, including rent and utilities.
In the second and third phases, these centres will also receive funding to help with:
- Cleaning costs
- Hiring and training staff when they reopen
- Not raising parent fees
The Alberta government emphasizes that the reopening of these centres must meet the health guidance rules from the chief medical officer of health.
