The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau announced an annual increase to the Canada Child Benefit (CCB). Introduced in 2016 by the Government of Canada, the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly child benefit made to qualified families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years old.

According to the announcement, the monthly CCB will go up this July, helping parents pay for basic needs (food, clothes) and activities families can do together at home during this uncertain time.

The increase will raise the maximum benefit to

– $6,765 per child under age 6

– $5,708 per child aged 6 through 17

On May 20, 2020, this special measure will give families currently receiving the CCB an additional one-time payment of $300 per child with their May payment.
