During the COVID-19 pandemic, wearing a homemade or non-medical mask is a way to protect yourself and help prevent the spread of the virus. Wearing a mask is not mandatory but you are encouraged to do so when it’s difficult to maintain the 2-metre physical distance from others around you in public.
Starting early June, you can pick up a package of 4 masks per person at no cost through A&W, McDonald’s and Tim Hortons drive-thru locations.
– No purchase is necessary, which means that you do not have to buy anything from these restaurants to pick up the free masks.
– The free masks are only available at drive-thru locations while supplies last. The plan is to give out 20 million masks. Once they run out, there won’t be any available.
– To learn more about why and how to properly use and care for masks, please read the instructions for proper care and use of non-medical masks.
This mask distribution program is a partnership between the Alberta government and these three fast-food restaurant chains and is part of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy to safely reopen our economy.
* Fun fact: do you know that there are ways to prevent your glasses from fogging up when you wear a mask?
