Most eligible seniors in Canada will be receiving their one-time COVID-19 payments this week, a measure that was announced by Justin Trudeau in mid-May. This payment provides support for seniors during COVID-19 through a one-time payment:
- $300 for seniors eligible for the Old Age Security pension, and
- an additional $200 for seniors eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement
This measure will give a total of $500 to seniors who receive both the Old Age Security pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement, and will help them cover increased costs caused by COVID-19.
“Seniors who reside in Canada can expect to receive the payment by direct deposit or cheque this week, whereas seniors who reside outside Canada can expect this one-time payment in July for those on direct deposit, or by cheque with delays given international postal disruptions.”
