Property Tax Extension 2020

The City of Calgary has created measures to help citizens and businesses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Measures include help with property tax bills, which will still be mailed by the end of May 2020; however, two new relief measures were approved to provide flexibility for property owners:

  1. The tax payment deadline has been extended from June 30 to September 30 without late payment penalties. The tax due date printed on the bill will be June 30. However, the annual 7% penalty applied on July 1 has been cancelled. Property owners have until September 30 to pay their 2020 tax bill without penalty. Any unpaid 2020 tax balance as of October 1 will have a late payment penalty of 7% applied.
  2. The Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP) has suspended its 2% filing fee for taxpayers who join TIPP between January 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021.
