The Government of Alberta has confirmed that their flu vaccination program will begin on Monday, Oct., 19. It will also be available to vulnerable populations (such as seniors) a few days earlier (October 13) through health practitioners.
What is the flu shot?
The flu shot is an influenza vaccine that protects against the influenza virus. Everyone is at risk of the influenza, especially those who:
- live in a care facility, such as a nursing home
- are under age 5 years
- are age 65 years or older
- are pregnant
The flu shot is a vaccine will be offered, free of charge, to all Albertans six months of age and older.
