A snow squall watch has been issued for Calgary on October 16, 2020. Snow squalls are defined as “a sudden moderately heavy snowfall with blowing snow and strong gusty surface winds”.

To prepare yourself better for the upcoming snowfall, here are some tips:

  • Give yourself extra time for your commute! Whether you are taking public transportation or driving, there could be delays on your route that you take to your destination
  • Make sure your heating system is in good working condition, having a back up heating system (such as a fireplace) is a good idea
  • Dress in layers when going outdoors to ensure you are dressed for the weather
  • If you are driving
    • Make sure you check the road conditions map
    • Clean any snow or ice off of your vehicle
    • Reduce your speed and turn on your headlights
    • Leave extra room between you and other vehicles
