New Driver Road Test System to be Implemented

Michelle Mak Daily Life, Newcomer Information, Updates

Starting on December 1, 2020, Albertans will be able to book passenger vehicle road tests directly with local registry agents or through a new online system after Jan. 5, 2021. Registry agents will be able to hire or contract driver examiners directly. Back in March of 2019, road tests were nationalized causing a large portion of driver examiners to leave the system and increased wait times significantly.

This new online booking system will connect drivers directly with their local registry agent. More driver examiners will also be available to administer road tests outside of normal government hours.

Government driver examiners will continue to conduct Class 1 to 3 commercial truck and bus road tests, this new system is for Class 4, 5, 6.
