City of Calgary: Remembrance Day Ceremonies

Michelle Mak Community, Newcomer Information

Tomorrow, November 11, 2020, is Remembrance Day. Every year on this day, Canadians gather to pay their respects to those who sacrificed their lives for Canada. But due to COVID-19, many of the commemorations and ceremonies have been moved online to help prevent the spread.

The Military Museums
The Military Museums’ Remembrance Day service this year will be closed to the public. The event will be held online on their Facebook page beginning at 10:20 a.m. MT. CBC Calgary will also livestream the ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. on the CBC Calgary website and Facebook feed.

The Hangar Flight Museum
The Hanger Flight Museums’ Remembrance Day ceremony this year is a private, indoor service (no public allowed).

CTV Calgary will provide a live TV broadcast and webstream to ensure everyone can participate from the safety and comfort of their homes. Coverage online begins at 10:40 a.m. at CTVNewsCalgary.ca, and the live TV broadcast joins the service in progress from 10:57 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

There will be no Sunrise or Sunset ceremonies on Remembrance Day and the park will be closed to the public between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Remembrance Day Ceremony will be broadcast live on Global Calgary from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. and streamed online.

Canadian Pacific Remembrance Day Ceremony
Canadian Pacific will live stream a private ceremony in place of a public gathering to respect COVID-19 protocols. Viewers can watch the ceremony virtually commencing at 10:45 MT.

The Canadian Pacific will still be having their locomotive whistle sounding at 11:01 a.m. local time, and across the network where safe to do so, to start a moment of silence.

Please note that Calgary Transit will be running their Sunday level of service and that all veterans and accompanying family members will be able to ride transit for free.
