Health Canada has recently announced that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine meets its stringent safety, efficacy and quality requirements for use in Canada.

As Health Canada is committed to openness and transparency, supporting documents and more detailed information related to this decision will be made available soon.

The vaccine is given by an injection to the muscle of the arm. For the best result, two injections are needed.

The initial indication of the vaccine is for use in people 16 years of age or older. In medicine, an indication is a valid reason to use a certain medication or procedure.

Pfizer-BioNTech are running further clinical trials on children of all age groups and the indication could be revised in the future to include children if the data from these studies support it.
