COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution in Alberta

Alberta will begin receiving vaccine doses as COVID-19 vaccines are approved by Health Canada. The first 3,900 doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Alberta during the week of December 14.

Vaccines will be distributed through a phased immunization program. So far, the plan looks like this:

Initial shipment
  • When: December 2020
  • Who: a limited number of critical health workers
Phase 1
  • When: January to April 2021
  • Who: people most at risk (front-line health care workers, residents and staff in long-term care facilities, on-reserve First Nations individuals aged 65+, seniors aged 75 and older)
Phase 2
  • When: April to September 2021
  • Who: priority populations
Phase 3
  • When: Fall 2021
  • Who: general public

* Note that the timelines above are subject to adjustments as the provincial government works out more details in the coming weeks.
