The physical activity of shoveling snow can be demanding. Pay attention to the following to protect your health and safety when shoveling snow:
- Warm up. Consider snow shoveling as a workout. Stretch out for 5-10 minutes before heading out.
- Dress properly in thin and breathable layers and remember to wear gloves or mittens
- Don’t shovel right after a meal to avoid strain on your heard during physical activity.
Consult your doctor if you
- are a senior
- are overweight and/or
- have a history of heart disease in the family
