The Temporary COVID-19 Face Coverings Bylaw came into effect in August 2020 and was extended through December 2021.

Those who fail to comply face penalties from $50 to $100. Following offences within a 12-month period will result in higher penalties.

Calgary Community Peace Officers and the Calgary Police Service (CPS) have been working together to ensure enforcement of all bylaws and public health orders.

Since August 1, 2020, 98 violation tickets have been issued to those that failed to wear face coverings where required.

Even when you are using outdoor parks and skating locations, you must follow the Provincial Health Orders:

  • Maintain 2 metres of distance from anyone outside of your household.
  • Where social physical distancing is not possible, wear a face covering.

You can help with the enforcement of the Face Coverings Bylaw! If you see someone violating the bylaw, you may file a complaint to:

  • Alberta Health Services: online or by calling 1-833-415-9179
  • City of Calgary: calling 311 or Calgary Police Service non-emergency line 403-266-1234

Word of the Day:

Enforcement: the act of making sure that people do what is required by a law or rule
