Welcome to today’s Residential Recycling & Disposal Info for Newcomers!
From time to time, you need to get rid of furniture such as
- Sofas, couches
- Tables, desks
- Shelves
- Chairs, …
Because they are broken, or because you are simply replacing them with new ones.
Where should we place used furniture?
Furniture in good condition
- Donate or drop-off items to participating charities in Calgary;
- Give them away to your friends, family, neighbors in need.
- Join immigrant Facebook groups and donate your furniture to other newcomers, e.g. Calgary Immigrant Support Society (CISS);
- List them on Kijiji.ca, ebay.ca, or Facebook Marketplace and sell them at a lower price.
* Tip: If you live in an apartment building, you may be allowed to leave usable furniture items in common areas, in case other residents need them. Check with your building’s management team first.
Old and broken furniture
- Take unusable bulky furniture to a City landfill. Landfill charges will apply.
- Unusable smaller furniture (such as chairs & stools) belongs to your black cart as garbage.
