If you are a newcomer to Canada, and you have never filed personal tax returns with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), you need to file it once first before registering for My Account. The reason is that when you register, for verification purposes, CRA will ask you to type in an amount from one of your previous income tax and benefit returns.
