World Refugee Day (each year on June 20) is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe.
Having been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution, refugees who settled in Canada make significant contributions to our nation’s economy. As tax payers, they create jobs, buy homes and put down roots in Canadian communities. Their resilience, strength and courage are celebrated and recognized.
Each year, World Refugee Day is marked by a variety of events in many countries around the globe in support of refugees, Canada included.
2021 World Refugee Day theme is:
- Together we heal
- Together we learn
- Together we shine
To celebrate World Refugee Day 2021, Immigrant Services Calgary organized a Facebook live event “Refugees’ Journey: From Uncertainty to Stability” on June 17.
