Are Egg Cartons Recyclable?

Lisa C. Community, Newcomer Information

Welcome to today’s Residential Recycling & Disposal Info for Newcomers!

Are egg cartons recyclable? It depends on the materials used to make the cartons.
  • Egg cartons made of foam belong in your black cart as garbage.
  • Egg cartons made of plastic with the recycling symbols 1-7 should be put in your blue cart and recycled.
  • Egg cartons made of cardboard should be put in your blue cart and recycled.

Note that if you are dealing with plastic egg cartons, remember to remove the paper liner from the plastic container and recycle both in your blue cart separately.

To do less harm to the environment, let’s purchase eggs that come in cardboard or plastic cartons, as these cartons can be recycled later.

Word of the Day:

Liner: a removable layer of different material covering the inside surface of a container
