In honor of the children that did not return home from indian residential schools, the City of Calgary joined Indigenous Elders in a Pipe Ceremony blessing the Indian Residential School Memorial on the steps of City Hall.

Following incidents of vandalism, there have been some concerns for the safety of the memorial. The Indigenous community and the City are discussing how to safeguard the memorial and looking for a safe permanent place for the memorial.

Until a permanent place is found, the memorial will remain at its current location, on the steps of City Hall.
