The Alberta government is lowering child care fees for working families, following the signing of our historic agreement with the federal government.
Parents with kids not yet in kindergarten will see fees for spaces in licensed daycares, preschools and family day homes reduced by half, on average, by early 2022. Families most in need will receive additional subsidies. By 2026, families will be paying an average of $10 per day per child.
New operating grants for facility-based child care programs will also start in mid-January 2022. This will help providers lower fees for parents without shouldering extra costs.
Key features of the plan:
- Improving affordability
- Expanding child care accessibility
- Supporting high-quality child care
