Alberta Health Services is re-introducing contact tracing for close contacts of those potentially exposed to the Omicron variant to recommend they get a COVID-19 test and to provide further instructions.

The Omicron variant is now in Alberta. AHS has announced that contact tracing will take place for all close contacts of cases that are

  • positive with the Omicron variant , or
  • suspected to be positive with the Omicron variant.

AHS will notify these Albertans with a phone call, a letter or a text message.

Albertans who are a close contact of an Omicron positive case or an international traveler, and are not fully immunized, are recommended to stay home and avoid going to public places until at least 14 days after their last close contact with the person who tested positive with COVID-19.
