Many women and girls in the northern part of Central America have been displaced as a result of high levels of violence and growing social and economic instability. Canada is committed to helping them.
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship recently announced a new initiative to empower and protect women and girls in the region.
With a commitment of $10 million over the next 4 years, Canada will work with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to assist women and girls affected by irregular migration and forced displacement in these countries:
- Honduras
- Guatemala
- El Salvador
