May 21st is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development!

Cultural diversity refers to the different birthplaces, ethnicities, languages, values, beliefs, and world views particular groups of people identify with.

We can deepen our understanding of cultural diversity and its value in our lives by simply having a dialogue with those who are different from us. It all begins with a conversation and keeping an open mind. By developing respect and mutual understanding for other cultures and faiths, we gain collective strength from the uniqueness each person brings to our world.

This weekend let’s celebrate and be mindful of the diversity around us! Here are some ideas:

  • Visit an art exhibition or a museum featuring other cultures
  • Learn about a religion you’re not familiar with
  • Watch a foreign film
  • Listen to music from a different culture
  • Learn about traditional celebrations from other cultures

What’s your favourite way of learning about other cultures? Tell us in the comments below!
