On July 11, 2023, the Government of Canada announced the removal of the education requirement under the Canadian work experience stream (Stream B) of the Hong Kong permanent residence pathways. Effective August 15, 2023, this progressive change opens up new opportunities for Hong Kongers with Canadian work experience to qualify for permanent residence, eliminating the constraints imposed by their education status. Furthermore, this amendment streamlines the application process by eliminating the need to provide proof of education.

This recent amendment builds upon the extension and expansion of open work permits for Hong Kong residents, further facilitating their transition from temporary to permanent residence. By implementing these measures, Canada seeks to attract skilled individuals who have already gained valuable Canadian work experience. This progressive approach unlocks doors of opportunity for talented professionals from Hong Kong, empowering them to contribute their unique skills and experiences to Canada’s diverse and thriving workforce.

Canada’s commitment to supporting Hong Kong residents’ freedom and democracy remains resolute, as the nation embraces diversity, inclusivity, and the invaluable contributions of individuals from around the world.
