Today, the Bank of Canada issued the new vertical $10 bank note featuring the portrait of social justice icon Viola Desmond, during a ceremony at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg. The new $10 bank note will be rolled out in Canadian financial institutions starting today.

Canada is expanding its biometrics collection program and is now taking steps to prepare for December 31, 2018, when nationals from countries in Asia, Asia Pacific and the Americas will need to give their biometrics (fingerprints and a photo) when applying for a visitor visa, study or work permit, or for permanent residence. – Source: IRCC’s website.
Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) is pleased to congratulate long-time volunteer, Don Wall, on receiving the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers in recognition of his exceptional volunteer contributions. Over the past four decades, Don has devoted his life to serving immigrants and refugees and empowering them to become contributing members in Canadian society. Don has made enormous contributions through undertaking a variety of volunteer roles, including serving as community host, cultural broker, ESL instructor, refugee sponsor, employment coach, and Income Tax Clinic consultant and trainer.
Friday Oct 26, Suncor Managers and professionals from various departments worked closely with Immigrant Services Calgary’s highly skilled professionals and invited them to practice elevator pitch, resume and interview preparation, as well as panel discussion.
Highly skilled professional invited by ISC participated, connected and networked with Suncor team and learned new tips and strategies especially when it comes interview skills.

In October, our Community Initiatives for Immigrant Seniors Program (CISP) participated in the 4th Annual Chinese Legal Knowledge Competition hosted by the Calgary Chinese Community Services Association(CCCSA)’s Law & Advocacy Program. The competition involved 50 seniors from the community and three seniors representing the CISP won first place in the competition. The awards were presented by the MLA for Calgary-Northern Hills Jamie Kleinstueber. CCCSA organizes this competition annually in order to educated seniors about the legal system in Canada.
In October, Immigrant Services Calgary’s seniors program hosted the 8th Annual National Seniors Day celebration in collaboration with the City of Calgary and Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizens’ Association at the Kerby Centre. The event was very successful with over 300 community members in attendance.
Today, Immigrant Services Calgary’s employment team hosted a hiring event with Walmart Canada. It was a very impressive turnout. About hundred Immigrant Services Calgary’s clients showed up at this hiring event. They were interviewed, and many of them received job offers.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently published an infographic that shows the processing time of complete Express Entry applications is six months or less for 80% of cases. It shows, as of July 31, Canada has welcomed 170,000 newcomers through Express Entry program.
