Supporting Visible Minority Newcomer Women – IRCC

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a new pilot for newcomer women addressing their existing barriers for employment. Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Honourable Ahmed Hussen announced the 3-year Visible Minority Newcomer Women Pilot.

The primary goal of this pilot is to address the barriers newcomer women face when finding employment. Gender, race discrimination, low income employment, lack of affordable childcare and weak social supports are examples of the barriers newcomer women can face. IRCC will be providing funding for new, innovative programs and services that address these barriers.

Network Your Way to Success – Networking Event for IT professionals

November 22, 2018, Immigrant Services Calgary’s Employment Services Team hosted the “Network Your Way to Success” networking event for immigrant IT professionals. It was a great success with over 50 newcomers and employers. It was a good opportunity for newcomer professionals to build up their network with local IT professionals.

Friday Oct 26, Suncor Managers and professionals from various departments worked closely with Immigrant Services Calgary’s highly skilled professionals and invited them to practice elevator pitch, resume and interview preparation, as well as panel discussion.

Highly skilled professional invited by ISC participated, connected and networked with Suncor team and learned new tips and strategies especially when it comes interview skills.

Thank you Suncor team for giving back to our community. The event was professional, successful and we look forward for more events with your team.

Walmart Hiring Event at Immigrant Services Calgary

Today, Immigrant Services Calgary’s employment team hosted a hiring event with Walmart Canada. It was a very impressive turnout. About hundred Immigrant Services Calgary’s clients showed up at this hiring event. They were interviewed, and many of them received job offers. 

Virtual Career Fair on October 3rd and 4th

Immigrant Services Calgary is hosting its 2nd Virtual Career Fair  on October 3 and 4, 2018 for residents living in Canada.

If you are looking for job, you can participate in our Virtual Career Fair online. You can apply for jobs and communicate directly with HR Recruiters and Managers.

The fair will feature 30+ national and multinational companies offering 1000+ job opportunities in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Opportunities will be available in urban and rural areas.

Alberta Minimum Wage Increase to $15.00 on Oct. 1 2018

On October 1, 2018, Alberta’s general minimum wage will be increased to $15.00 an hour. Minimum wage is the lowest amount that can be paid to an employee by law. In Alberta, employers must pay their employees at least the minimum wage. Minimum wage is the same for adults, liquor servers, adolescents, youth and disabled people. 

Power Breakfast Networking Event for Professionals

This morning, Immigrant Services Calgary hosted a networking event –  Power Breakfast for professionals in the field of finance, HR, accounting, and supply chain. It was a great success with over 60 participants, and opportunities for newcomer professionals to build up their local network with professionals in their field.

ISC youth invited to apply for summer jobs at Trico Homes

Last week, Immigrant Services Calgary’s Youth Inclusive Program youth were invited by Trico Homes to learn about their summer student opportunities for 2019. The Vice President Human Resources of Trico Homes gave a presentation about what they look for in their hiring process, summer student positions, and work culture. 

KPMG Interview Skills & Networking Event

This morning Immigrant Services Calgary partnered with KPMG, to share with around 50 immigrant professionals about effective interview techniques. Over 15 KPMG staff came out to support our newcomers, and the event successfully concluded with a meaningful time of networking and relationship building.

Marking World Refugee Day by supporting newcomer employment – IRCC

June 20 is World Refugee Day. Today, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism, announced an innovative pilot project that will connect newcomers with jobs in the hotel industry. This 3-year project will assist up to 1,300 newcomers – many fo them refugees – in gaining job experience. During the employment, they will be able to improve their language skills as well.
