Newcomers take to the slopes with new winter sports campaign

Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) and Seekers Media are partnering on a new visibility initiative that will be welcoming newcomers to Alberta and connecting them with winter sports.

The new initiative, #NewSkiAb, shows people of diverse backgrounds talking about their first experiences with traditional Canadian activities like skiing and snowshoeing. In addition, some lucky individuals and their families will have the opportunity to receive free lessons and trips to winter activities around Alberta to help introduce them to their new home in the province. It is hoped that this initiative can help newcomers with increasing their sense of belonging and building of their Canadian identity.

Alberta Premier Dave Hancock signed labour mobility agreement-in-principle with Nova Scotia premier Stephen McNeil. This agreement will allow apprenticeship training transferable between Alberta and Nova Scotia. This will improve the recognition of in-province training, allow for the recognition of apprenticeship work experience hours, and enhance labour mobility for apprentices in both Alberta and Nova Scotia.
