Alberta Health Services is warning Albertans about a new text scam. Some Albertans have been receiving text messages that links to what looks like an e-transfer site. Once you open the link, the site asks you to input your bank information. Alberta Health Services would like to clarify that it would never send text messages, and would never request for money through e-transfer. If you receive such a text message, do not open the link.
Alberta has redesigned its driver’s licenses and identification cards with updated security features to help protect Albertans against counterfeiting and identification theft.
The new design reflects Alberta’s landscape and history, and it includes an image of an Albertosaurus, a dinosaur, whose remains were first found in Alberta.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has appointed 10 citizenship judges. The number of citizenship judges has been increased from five to 14. They are located in Halifax, Montreal, the Greater Toronto Area, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Vancouver and Surrey, British Columbia.

On May 28, 2018, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced plans to remove the visa requirement for UAE citizens on June 5, 2018. UAE citizens will not need a visa for short visits to Canada (up to 6 months).
Although UAE citizens will not need to apply for a visa, like other visa-exempt travelers, they will still need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada.

Bring along your shovels, gloves and containers to take home up to 100 litres of compost per day per vehicle. The fertilizer is 100% natural. It is made of the food scraps, leaves, and yard waste materials through City of Calgary Green Cart Program. Calgarians can pick up the compost on every Saturday in May.

Next week millions of mobile phones and tablets will ring and vibrate across the Canada to test the new national public emergency alert system. Canada’s broadcast regulator, the CRTC, said the wireless providers will send a test alert on May 7 and 9. It sounds similar to an ambulance alarm. In Alberta, the test will be distributed on May 9 at 1:55 PM MDT.
The Government of Alberta just announced that Alberta is adding 100 additional Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) centres offering $25 per day care. Alberta now has a total number of 7,300 affordable spaces.
This Alberta-wide pilot program provides child care for children aged 0 to kindergarten with maximum fees of $25 per day. The centres may offer flexible child care for parents who work part-time or shifts that are outside typical day car hours.
April 23 to April 27, 2018 is Alberta Career Week. There are many career events across the province during this week to help Albertans with employment and career options, and exploring training and education programs. Immigrant Services Calgary’s Employment Bridging Program has also organized two workshops.
