The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. On the same night that Hindus celebrate Diwali, Jains celebrate a festival of lights to mark the attainment of moksha by Mahavira, and Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas.
Diwali is an official holiday in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Malaysia, Singapore and Fiji.

Navratri (September 25 – October 3, 2014) is a festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu deity Durga. The word Navratri means the ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit/ The nine nights are dedicated to the three main goddesses of Hinduism. Navratri is separated into sets of three days.
First three days of Navratri are dedicated to Goddess Durga, the Goddess of power and energy.
Next three days of Navratri are dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
The final three days belong to Goddess Saraswati who is worshipped to acquire spiritual knowledge.
